 课程成果:本课程从“英译汉”“汉译英”两个方面向学生讲授口译基本理论和技巧,并进行不同专题的口译实战练习,包括:会话口译,访谈口译,礼仪性口译和介绍性口译。使学生初步学会口译笔记,口头概述,公众演讲等基本技巧和口译基本策略,提高学生的话语分析能力,逻辑思维能力,语言组织能力和双语表达能力。学生能从事一般的外事活动的交替传译。
  
  
 考核方式:平时成绩100(30%)+期末成绩100(70%)
 平时成绩:100分折合为总成绩的30% 100分=100分+0分
 注:100分:平时测5次,每次20分;
    0分:随机抽查5次出勤,不计分,3次无故缺勤者取消期末考试资格。
 期末成绩:100分折合为总成绩的70%

 I. About Interpretation
 Definition:Interpreting is anactivity that consists of establishing oral communication between two or morespeakers who are not speaking the same languages. 
  
 Classification:
 Two main kinds: A. simultaneousinterpretation 同声传译
 B. consecutive interpretation 接续口译
 C. alternating interpretation: 交替口译 an interpreter with twolanguages, very commonly used
 D. whispering interpretation: 耳语口译 the same as simultaneousinterpretation but by whispering ( individually to distinguished guests orleaders of government)
  
 Criteria:
 A. accuracy:accuracy is the spirit of either kinds of translation. Accuracy doesn’t meanthat you translate word by word. It includes many aspects: such as accuracy intopic, spirit, argument, style, vocabulary, numbers, expressions, speed,intonation. 
 B. Fluency:fluency represent the feature of interpretation. 
  
 Requirements to be a qualifiedinterpreter:
 1)to be accurate: a good command of language, thatneed you to read more, memorize more. (daily accumulation)
 2)Note-taking skill: It varies according to yourpersonal preference. Time is limited, you cannot take down word by word. Youcan invite or invent some of your own symbols, abbreviations, which is easy foryou to take down and understand. There is no standard for a good note-taking,suit for you is the best. But remember there is a rule that the largest partyou should depend on is your memory. 
 3)Much practice: It’s the dogged that does it. It’s no doubt thatpractice makes perfect.
 4) wide-ranging knowledge: that means youshould be knowledgeable in every aspect of life. Sometimes when you translatesth. quite traditional in Chinese, some idioms, some set phrases. You should bewell-prepared in your daily study.
  
 Some tips:
 1)to prepare: before an interpretation, you mustprepare materials based on the subject, and prepare for the related news,words, names, titles.
 2)Use some skills in note-taking:
 3)Don’t stop (cause some misunderstanding that you’vefinished) 
 Don’t interrupt.
 4)Be quick to interpret.
 5)Avoid word for word interpretation. 
 Eg. 班门弄斧:teach fish to swim 
   Manykiss the baby for the nurse’s sake;醉翁之意不在酒
 That is a general introduction ofinterpretation and in the following classes we will cultivate these skills andtrain these ability of interpret orally.

 第二阶段考试:口语+口译
 •口语:就指定题目作五分钟的命题发言。准备时间5分钟
 •口译:英译汉+汉译英两部分翻译主题各不相同的两个段落

 Interest:(motivation): you love what you do, you’ll earn much money, it’s estimated byminutes
 Confidence:some students are too shy to open your mouth, open your mouth and open yourmind then speak out loudly. 
 Perseverance, patience and practice make perfect. 
 Because Rome wasn’t built in one day; so don'tmake it “three steps forward, two steps back”
  
 2. class activity: 
 1) before each class, you’ll get a handout,listed with many Chinese words and phrases: that needs you preview, getfamiliar with the text, because we don’t have time to interpret the text inclass and you should learn it mainly by yourself.
 2) in class we are going to illustratethese language points with many sentences.
 3) Also, we will practice with a piece oftopic related materials from some speeches, books, videos, tapes, ect. Toenlarge your vocabulary as well as train your ability or interpreting
 4) we will cultivate some skills such asfigures interpreting, note-taking skills, skills for English into Chinese, longsentences, difficult sentences.
5) after that, you will be asked to review because you will be tested incertain classes, so be well-prepared in every class, you’ll never know when youwill be tested.

 Final examination: oral: E—C, C—E 70%
 Daily tests: 30%
